BARON RINGS WWCFL CHAMPIONSHIP MVPs

In front of a hometown crowd at Mosaic Stadium on Sunday, June 24, the Regina Riot defended their WWCFL title and claimed their third championship overall with a 14-10 victory over the Saskatoon Valkyries.

The Valkyries had a great start, building up a 10-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a field goal by Carly Dyck and a touchdown by Sarah Wright (con: Rienna Rueve), but the Riot weren't deterred.

With a few minutes remaining in the half, Mallory Starkey scored (con: Morgan Turner) to cut the lead to 10-7 at the half. In the third quarter, they then added a single point on a missed field goal to put the game within two.

Saskatoon put in a strong effort, but Starkey was again able to find the endzone late in the fourth quarter to give the Riot their first lead of the game 14-10. The Valkyries attempted their own comeback, but a hard-nosed Regina defence stopped them short.

Congratulations to Regina Riot quarterback #12 Amiee Kowalski and Saskatoon Valkyries running back #88 Sarah Wright on being awarded the title of Baron Rings WWCFL Championship MVP!
